Graduates’ Achievements

Initially, my plan was to go to university after I received my DSE results. But once I received them, they weren’t as good as I expected. So, a little of that hope was gone. But luckily enough for me I did have friends who went to YCCC and who told me about the DUFS program, and so I took it. And that really did help me regain that hope again. Because if it weren’t for the support from the lecturers and the staff here, I would not have been able to get a really high GPA and also get a (YCCC) scholarship. And also to top it all off, because of all of this, I was able to get two offers from two universities in the UK for psychology which I am very very happy for.

I have thought of my future career since I was young. I believe everyone’s aspirations, interests and goals are pretty much molded by the age of 6. Therefore I hope to be an exemplary person for children and this intention eventually empowered my passion and motivation in teaching. Talking about my interests, I love playing piano, singing and doing handicrafts as well. Being able to integrate my interests into daily tasks definitely enhances both satisfaction and a sense of belonging at my work. I had practical training at a kindergarten adopting the Reggio Emilia approach for two weeks. This experience has deeply impressed me because its pedagogy is to induce students’ self-directed learning in a relationship-driven environment. This kind of kindergarten is not so common in Hong Kong yet. I hope though I will have an opportunity to devote myself to such a place in the future. I am glad that I was admitted to The University of Hong Kong. I will be entering into the third year of a Bachelor of Science in Applied Child Development. Looking back at the last two years, I am inspired by the College's excellent team of academic staff. Every lecturer was more than happy to patiently answer any questions about my schoolwork. This enabled me to keep improving my academic performance. I am sincerely grateful for their supportive way of teaching.

BSc Applied Child Development – The University of Hong Kong

I have encountered two challenges at the University of Hong Kong. The first one is learning more in-depth ECE theories and the second one is learning more difficult English vocabularies. YCCC did help me a lot as I have had a clear understanding of various theories at YCCC, thus making my study more effective at HKU. The 100% English learning environment at YCCC also helped me build up a strong English foundation. Now I can learn more effectively and confidently.

I graduated from a CMI school and my DSE result was not very good. My English has improved a great deal at YCCC and I am really happy to be able to study at HKU. Besides, with YCCC classmates admitted into the same ECE programme at HKU, studying and growing up together with them is a very fulfilling experience.

A few years ago, we have a new born baby in my family and I have a lot of opportunities to get along with the baby. I found that the growth of a child is very amazing, so I hope to become a kindergarten teacher to witness the growth of more children.

I had practicum in an international kindergarten and that experience is very memorable. A teacher of the kindergarten told me that there was a little boy who barely talks to others. In the first week of the practicum, I insisted communicating withhim even he did not give me any response. I kept talking to him and playing with him. finally, , he started mumbling different vocabularies , such as colors and objects to me in the second week. The teacher and I were very surprised. This experience has made me determined to be a therapist in order to help more children with special needs.

I am a mother of two children. Two years ago, I enrolled in YCCC’s HDECE programme to open a new chapter of my life with the hope to start a career in ECE. In time, I become more and more interested in ECE. Encouraged by the teachers, I applied for the bachelor degree programme in ECE at HKU and CUHK. I am very honoured to receive offers from both of the universities. Thank you YCCC for helping me to go further on my career path in ECE.

I am so grateful and honoured to receive the Founder’s Award (2016).

YCCC sets up a strong base for me in early childhood education. All the credits go to YCCC in order for me to go into the Univeristy of Hong Kong.

There was a time when I was dealing with tons of workload. But all the lecturers supported me by saying and telling me that a hard work today and look into the future and you will know what you will get tomorrow.

My dream is to open a quality and free of charge kindergarten in India for needy people.

"Working with children has always been my dream since I was a child. After studying in YCCC, I have a more clear picture of what I want to achieve, and a stronger interest in being a nursery teacher. I am really surprised that I already got accepted by the University of Hong Kong and the University of Portsmouth in the UK."

Remarkably, my grades are actually really high. When I was in high school, I did not pay much attention to my grades because I was not a top student at that time. But now I just have the motivation to study well. In my first term, I got a really good GPA.

What I like YCCC the most would be the multicultural community and the 100% English learning environment. Teachers are recruited worldwide such as Canada, Singapore, the United States, Hong Kong, etc. They equipped me with the information of Early Childhood Education in other countries, thus developing a solid foundation for my future aspiration to work in international kindergartens.

The most memorable experience at YCCC was the internship opportunities offered to me to work in three different kindergartens. We gained some hands-on experiences to learn how to teach children through working with the host teachers. As a student who is determined to be a kindergarten teacher, it is a valuable experience to introspect on my attitude and ambition toward teaching.

BSc Applied Child Development – The University of Hong Kong

I was very nervous during my first practicum. Children were curious to see male kindergarten teachers as they were used to be taught by female teachers. I learned some new things through different practicum opportunities. At the workplace of second practicum, I had a chance to approach children with special needs. Witnessing children with special needs to have progress in learning is very fulfilling.

I am glad to receive a conditional offer of undergraduate program by The University of Hong Kong. To a certain extent YCCC ‘s effort to improve students’ English standard does help me to achieve this. Teachers are willing to provide support and assistance, no matter it is CV preparation, oral or written assessment. Teachers are eager to fully equip us at every stage.

An improvement I have in YCCC is that I became more responsible to myself. Back in High School, the teachers always chase us and were very strict with our work. However, that does not happen in YCCC because teachers here view us as adults and expects us to be responsible for our work. Therefore, I become more proactive in doing my work and become more responsible for myself.

    Kindergarten Teacher – International Kindergarten

The most remarkable experience in YCCC would be my practicum in three different kindergartens. In my first practicum, I was just a teacher assistant. It was very encouraging since I can teach young kids as a teacher in my second and third practicum. I am very lucky that I have already been employed by a kindergarten when I am still an undergraduate so that I can apply what I have learnt in YCCC in a real practice.

I chose to study at YCCC because I enjoy studying at the 100% English learning environment here. It is fun and relaxed to learn in this environment. YCCC provides English Support Team for us. Whenever we encounter questions about English, we can approach them for help and they are eager to assist us.

The most memorable experience I had at YCCC was the practicum opportunities at kindergartens. As a new teacher, it takes time and effort for me to adapt to taking care of a group of energetic students. I will work harder and try my best!

They believed in me. They believed in my potential. And wherever I am today, YCCC has been a major contributor. So thanks, YCCC.

I like the learning environment, we are not having one way communication from lectures, and we can share our opinions with our classmate and lectures. Besides we have lots of group discuss activities. Thanks to the small class teaching atmosphere, we like an ECE big family, we shared our academic and personal life with each other, I miss them!
