The Programme offered by Yew Chung Community College is recognised by both local and overseas universities and provides various articulation pathways to further education. My most memorable experience in Yew Chung Community College is to join the Student Association. We recently organised an event called Culture Day. Classmates from different countries such as South Africa, Nepal and India have prepared their home country food and shared it with us. Our Culture Day was very enjoyable. My communication and leadership skills are significantly improved after joining the Student Association.

I see most of our college graduates are now working in international kindergartens and hopefully I can do the same. Also, the College provides us with a complete English learning environment. Since I have grown up in a Chinese environment, I want to take this opportunity to train up my English proficiency. The experience in Yew Chung Community College is so different from my previous study experiences. The most obvious difference is, when my previous teachers asked us questions and we gave wrong answers, they usually said directly the answers were wrong and expected other classmates to correct our answers. Whereas now when the teachers of the College bring up questions, even if we answer wrongly or with deviation, they would not negate what we say. In fact, they would ask more questions in order to guide us in the correct direction. Personally, I think this approach can help students enhance their confidence.

Well, I love children. That’s why I chose ECE and that’s why I am here at YCCC. At first, I thought ECE is just an ABC or 1,2,3. But after coming to YCCC, I later found out that ECE is not just ABC or 1,2,3. It has a whole different levels of in-depth study of ECE. When I finally realised that I want to become a professional and do a bachelor degree.

Well, in my last practicum, when I first stepped into the classroom, the children disliked me. They didn’t see me as a teacher. But after the end of the practicum, I found the environment really different. One child who did not like me at all, he came over to me and he gave me one of the cards and he personally gave it to me. When he hugged me, all the children came over to me and then they hugged me. It was a really nice experience. What I want to say is that, if you show your commitment, your care to the child, they surely can feel it.

YCCC Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education Year 1 student

I am a freelancer, dance academy supervisor, choreographer, child physical fitness instructor and training partner of international kindergarten. I enrolled in HDECE to improve my professional knowledge and skills. And I can get 4 professional qualifications in 2 years of study at YCCC. I believe that there are multiple pathways for HDECE graduates. I am currently designing my own early childhood education programme to apply ECE knowledge in curriculum design. The programme will integrate performing arts, music, dancing, and child physical development.

YCCC Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education Year 1 student

From a very young age, I have known that I wanted to be a teacher. I started by doing some babysitting work, volunteering at Sunday school and also at my mother’s school she taught at. It seemed to be a very natural path for me to be a teacher as I actually come from a family of teachers. Before studying at YCCC, I have actually been working for five years in the Early Childhood Education sector here in Hong Kong. Both my family and my boss really encouraged me to get qualified. They told me that if I wanted to get further in the field of Early Childhood Education, I need to have good qualification.
