The College has developed two interlinked Programmes which form a Three-year or Two-year Programme leading to an Associate in Arts Degree.

Within the three-year Programme there is a One-year University Foundation Diploma (UFD) Programme leading to a Diploma, which is followed by a Two-year Associate Degree (AD) Programme leading to an Associate in Arts Degree with 3 alternative Concentrations in 2010-12 in International Business, Social Sciences and Global Media and Communication.

Aim of the YCCC Programmes

The two YCCC Programmes are designed to enable students to pursue further studies at university, and in due course to contribute to today's knowledge-based, globalised world.

Objectives

The Objectives of the UFD and AD Programmes are to enable students to:

  • develop the breadth and depth of knowledge and the generic skills appropriate for progressing to further tertiary study and/or a career in today's knowledge-based society;
  • develop the abilities and dispositions that underpin lifelong learning;
  • develop critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving abilities;
  • develop effective language-for-learning abilities in English (Language 1) and effective communicative abilities in a second language (Language 2);
  • develop social, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills;
  • develop sound ethical values;
  • develop mathematical skills;
  • carry out independent and group inquiries involving simple quantitative and qualitative analyses and present their findings clearly;
  • use information technology effectively for inquiry, developing ever-improving personal interpretations of information provided, multi-media presentations and for storing and sharing knowledge and ideas;
  • strengthen their understanding of the world, of human potential, and of contemporary social, political, economic and cultural issues in both local and international contexts;

UFD Programme

The UFD Programme is a 36 credit Programme incorporating Core Courses in Languages and General Education.

AD Programme

The AD Programme is a 66 credit Programme incorporating Core Courses in Languages and General Education and in 1 of 3 possible Concentrations, with some Optional Courses. The 3 Concentrations are:

Teaching and Learning

The College will have small classes with around 15 students in each. Learning will comprise a wide range of activities from classroom instruction, interaction with tutors and peers, tasks, small-scale and larger-scale group and independent enquiries and projects, guest lectures, assignments of various sorts, site visits and other forms of experiential learning.

Assessment

There is generally both Course Assessment and an End-of-Course Examination in each Course.  Students will be awarded a Course Grade for each Course and an Overall Cumulative GPA for the Programme as a whole.  Both Course Grades and the Overall Programme GPA will be shown on Student Transcripts.
